Battalion Chief Gilmore

Battalion Chief Carl Gilmore joined with Portsmouth Fire Department in 1983.  He is currently assigned to Battalion 1, A Shift and is responsible for the department's Marine Division.

Battalion Chief Donald Newberry

Battalion Chief Newberry brings 16 years of field experience to his current position. He began his career as a firefighter and has promoted up through the ranks. During his tenure with the department he has served as a Haz-Mat Specialist as well as a Technical Rescue Technician. He is currently assigned to Battalion 2 A-Shift.

Battalion Chief James Hoffler

Battalion Chief Jim Hoffler joined the Portsmouth Fire Department March 25, 1979. He was promoted to Battalion Chief on July 1.1994. Chief Hoffler has served on the Tidewater Regional Technical Rescue team and as a Hazardous Materials Specialist. He has also been assigned to the Fire Marshals office serving as both an Arson Investigator and Chief Fire Marshal. Additionally, he was assigned to our Emergency Medical Services division as the EMS Chief. Chief Hoffler has been a Paramedic for over 30 years and was a Nightingale  Flight Paramedic for 21 years. He is currently assigned to Battalion 1 – B shift.

Battalion Chief Spence Campbell

B/C Spence Campbell has been with the department since 1986. He was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief in November of 2005. He has served as a Hazardous Materials Specialist on the Southside Regional Hazardous Materials Team. Education includes an AAS Fire Science Degree from Tidewater Community College and will graduate with a BS Organizational Management and Leadership Degree from Bluefield College in December 2007. He is currently assigned to Battalion 2 B.

Battalion Chief Greg Parsons

Battalion Chief Parsons began working for the department on February 1, 1990.  The majority of his career has been spent in stations serving the downtown area of the city.  Chief Parsons served as a team member and later a officer on the regional hazmat team from 1991-1996.  He was promoted to his current position as a battalion chief in August of 2005. He is currently assigned to Battalion 1 on the C shift, where he serves as the departments hazmat team leader.

Battalion Chief Danny Miller

Battalion Chief Miller began working with the department in September 1994 and was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief in September 2008. Chief Miller served as a member of the department's Regional Hazmat team from 1995 - 1999. Chief Miller also served as an original member of the department's Technical Rescue Team from 2002 - 2008. Chief Miller is currently a member of Virginia Task Force 2 - Search and Rescue Team and serves as the department's representative to the team.

Battalion Chief Danny Miller is assigned to Battalion 2, C-shift.
